Exam category: Image Production → Equipment Operation & Quality Assurance
Why it matters: Every image you send has to be judged acceptable or repeated, and some faults that look like a technique error come from the equipment or the image receptor. The registry tests quality control tests and their tolerances, the artifacts mistaken for technique errors, saturation, and identification markers.
The Image quality fundamentals module covered the judgments you make about a finished image. Equipment QC checks that the machine itself is not degrading image quality, and a finished image is graded on more than its anatomy: whether an artifact explains what you are seeing, whether the exposure error is recoverable, and whether the required markers are present.
Quality control (QC) is one piece of the broader quality assurance (QA) program. QA exists to ensure quality patient care and radiation safety through department-wide activities and processes, outcome evaluation, and policies and procedures. QC is narrower — evaluation of the imaging equipment itself.
